CVS shutters 19 stores, while dollar stores surge across the U.S.
Dollar General and Dollar Tree collectively opened more than 100 locations in August
Dollar stores continued to open rapidly across the U.S. in the second half of August, with Dollar General and Dollar Tree opening more than 100 locations combined.
CVS reported the largest number of store closings at 19. The pharmacy chain opened four locations during the period.
Dollar General opened 62 stores and closed eight, mainly throughout the Midwest, South, Southwest, and Northeast, and Dollar Tree’s 44 new stores were primarily located in California. All but one of Dollar Tree’s five store closures were in the Northeast.
Meanwhile, Food Lion closed nine locations across the Southern states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
Aldi continued with its steady stream of store openings with six locations, tying BJ’s six store openings for the month.
