GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Fresh Market here, which operates 107 stores in 21 states, received the LED Retailer of the Year award from GE Lighting for incorporating LED PAR38 lights into 40% of its stores for both accent and general lighting applications.

The award was given last week at GE Lighting’s LED & Energy Efficient Lighting Trends for Retail conference at the lighting company’s headquarters in East Cleveland, Ohio.

The criteria for the award included retrofitting at least 20% of stores to LED lighting, experiencing at least 20% energy savings by moving to an LED technology, and visually improving the appearance of stores in a way that is recognizable by customers.

“We are honored to receive this award from GE in regard to our LED efforts,” said Paul Poole, corporate energy manager of The Fresh Market, in a statement. “We were able to reduce our energy use while still maintaining a very high quality of light to improve the customer experience and the overall aesthetics of our stores.”
