IGA Donates $120,000 for Injured Veterans

CHICAGO — IGA here said it has donated $120,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project, a national group based in Jacksonville, Fla., that seeks to assist servicemen and women who have been injured.

From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, IGA donated 10¢ from the sale of every specially marked case of IGA exclusive brand water at participating IGA stores, resulting in a $100,000 of the donation. Kraft Foods contributed in IGA's name an additional $20,000 earned from the positioning of powdered beverage displays in IGA stores during the promotional period.

"We were overwhelmed with the support our independent IGA retailers gave this Wounded Warrior Project cause marketing event," Dave Bennett, IGA senior vice president of procurement and exclusive brands, said. "All across the country we saw IGA retailers participating by not only selling IGA exclusive brand water and Kraft beverages, but also by using community events to get the word out about the important mission of Wounded Warrior Project."

According to WWP, nearly 46,000 U.S. servicemen and women have been physically wounded during the current military conflicts, with hundreds of thousands more estimated to be recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression and brain injuries.

WWP assists these veterans and their families through a holistic approach to their recovery, providing programs and services to aid their physical rehabilitation and improve their mental health and well-being.
