The RinseWell Smart Eco Rinse by NEMCO Food Equipment is a planet-friendly solution to traditional dipper wells. The water-saving device can be used in restaurants, scoop shops and coffee shops to sanitize utensils in an ecologically friendly dipper well that continuously recirculates and sanitizes water. It can save 65 percent to 95 percent of water compared to a standard dipper well. Drive-thru coffee chain 7Brew in Arkansas said RinseWell saved the company 850,000 gallons of water annually across four locations. Dutch Bros Coffee, based in Oregon, is also using RinseWell.
Welbilt Inc.’s KitchenConnect was created for Barnett Management Co., a Burger King franchise group in Arizona, to optimize fry stations. KitchenConnect is a remote monitoring system that allows the operator to track how the fryers are being used in each restaurant location. Barnett was able to track crew performance, oil usage, filtering and cleaning. The data allowed the company to make adjustments at each restaurant, which resulted in more efficiency and profits. The company said it saved $4,000 a year in oil costs.
Follett, based in Easton, Pa., created the Horizon Elite 2110 Series Ice Machine to solve harsh water conditions for Pak-a-Sak. The Texas convenience store was spending $1,000 a year descaling its ice machines every six weeks. The Horizon product, which sits on top of a soda dispenser, is designed to reduce scaling by isolating the minerals and solids before the water turns to Follet’s signature Chewblet or nugget ice.
BKI-Worldwide created the TC Fryer Training Central for Rush’s, a South Carolina quick-service chain. The brand needed an efficient, engaging and quick way to train employees at its frying stations. The TC Fryer features a digital interface with step-by-step instructions on how to fry everything from chicken wings to onion rings. BKI says the operation is very similar to using a smart phone. Rush’s said it reduced employee training time by up to six hours.
The Vollrath Co. LLC created Modular Induction Dry Well Drop-Ins for a senior-care facility. The induction heat system is more energy efficient and improves food quality because it heats evenly compared to standard steam tables. The induction system is digitally controlled with multiple settings (low, medium and high).
Heatcraft Refrigeration Products developed the intelliGen Refrigeration Controller to monitor walk-in refrigerators. It works similar to “smart” remote-control devices like the Nest thermostat. Operators can monitor their refrigeration units anytime and anywhere. If a worker accidentally leaves the walk-in door open, the system will alert a manager with a notification by text. It’s currently being used by Ted’s Montana Grill, a casual-dining brand based in Atlanta.
