Post Holiday means Recovery and Planning for Hispanic shoppers

The Post Holiday season sees families "nesting" in an attempt to fall back into normal routines after the stress of the holidays. For the Hispanic consumer, it is a time of recovery and planning, but without missing an opportunity to celebrate occasions, both big and small.

During Post Holiday, the Hispanic shopper is taking time to re-organize the household and the finances, while preparing for a new year. Hispanic families seek opportunities for social gatherings as they look for ways to get out of the house to avoid feeling cooped up.

"The emphasis on family and family celebration cuts across the Seasons; frequent gatherings, with emphasis on sharing food, creates opportunities to connect with Hispanic shoppers," said Tony Washington, director, Shopper Insights.

To connect with Hispanic shoppers during this season, retailers should focus on a few key areas.

• Emphasize value meals and shopping deals that are lighter, easier meals for the whole family. Bundled meal components for casseroles, stews and chicken dishes work well as value plays a continuous role in shopping decisions.
• Appeal to the continued emphasis on family gatherings with indoor themes like game-nights and movie-nights for the extended family where self-assemble meal starters like crock-pot dishes, chili and traditional dishes work well.
• Include traditional ingredients in Super Bowl or Mardi Gras in-store themes to help bridge the new and old worlds for Hispanics and bring the Post Holiday Season to a close while welcoming Spring.
• Appeal to mom and her personal dieting efforts with quick, single-serve, low-calorie lunches.
