Redner’s Warehouse Markets, Reading, Pa., recipient of the 2012 Beef Backer award in the mid-sized chain category, prides itself on the quality of its products, and Angus Beef is one of them. The 42-unit chain’s officials make sure their dedication to Angus beef is brought to customers’ attention with lots of POS materials.
What was once a monthly promotion, “Pick 5 for $19.95,” was made an everyday promotional event at Beef Backer Redner’s Warehouse Markets, and it brought good results, Gary Redner, EVP, procurement, and director of wholesale operations, told SN. “That promotion can boost the sale of some cuts by more than 400% in a very short time.”
This life-sized poster introduced customers to meat managers at Broulim’s Fresh Foods, Rigby, Idaho. A take-off on the movie, “The Magnificent Seven,” it shows meat managers, with their names and store locations. Now there are nine. The company recently acquired two more stores. Broulim’s is a three-time winning Beef Backer in the independent category.

The 2012 Beef Backer Award for Innovator of the Year went to Tops Friendly Markets, Williamsville, N.Y., recognizing the 155-unit chain for launching nine attention-getting initiatives promoting beef in 2012. One standout effort targeted Hispanic customers, in selected stores, with a whole kit of colorful, bi-lingual POS materials.
