MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu here plans to form an advisory council comprised of retailers it supplies "to listen to its customers," one of those customers told SN this week.
The company, which recently completed the sale of its largest retail banners, confirmed plans to form such a group but did not supply any details.
The retailer said the council is likely to meet three or four times a year.
The move comes after a new management team was installed at Supervalu following the sale on March 22 of the Albertsons, Jewel, Acme and Shaw’s/Star Market chains to an investment group led by Cerberus Capital Management, New York.
The sale leaves Supervalu once again as a company that is predominantly a wholesaler rather than a retailer.
