Kaitlyn Rowles, deli manager, at Weis’ Lewisburg, Pa., store adds condiments with proprietary twist, and assembles new bistro sandwiches.
In most Weis stores, the grab-and-go section runs at least 24 feet. The chain has found its customers prefer self-service over full-service in its prepared food departments.
Plated, chilled meals, offering such entrees as meatloaf, fried chicken and battered haddock, are a recent addition.
Leafy green salads, with multiple proteins, pushed up in quality, are a best-seller. The category is showing the fastest growing sales, officials said.
New overstuffed bistro sandwiches are displayed to show off their ingredients. A store-made deli salad is part of the package.
Along with plated meals and store-made sandwiches, fresh cut fruit adds color to the self-service case.
“We’re aiming to offer restaurant quality food at a value price,” Geoffrey Wexler, director of food service, told SN.
