Compare Foods Tests Mobile Scanning App

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Compare Foods is scheduled to launch a test Monday at a store here of an app that allows customers to scan groceries with a smartphone or tablet as they shop.

The Swift Shopper app, created by ezCommerce Solutions, is free for both retailers and customers, who have the option to upgrade for $1.99.

To use the app, customers scan products as they place them in their cart, and then hand their mobile device to the cashier upon checkout. The technology works with checkouts that utilize dual-line handheld scanners.
