Key Food to 'refresh' Food Emporium banner

Key Food Stores Co-Operative said Monday that it would “refresh” The Food Emporium brand it acquired in an auction of A&P’s assets, while using the banner to rebrand select stores and additional acquisitions.

As reported first in SN, Key Food bid $1.75 million to acquire The Food Emporium’s brand name and intellectual property during A&P’s bankruptcy auction. A judge in the case approved the sale this month.

Key Food separately purchased 24 A&P stores in the auction including several in Manhattan under the Food Emporium banner.

“Key Food is excited to own The Food Emporium name and to be associated with this storied brand in the New York market,” Dean Janeway, Key Food’s CEO, said in a statement. “This is an exciting time for our company as we integrate The Food Emporium and other stores acquired from A&P into our supermarket family.”

Key Food said it intended to “refresh” The Food Emporium banner. "Customers will enjoy the up-tempo attitude of the environment and staff, who are always smiling and ready to stop whatever they are doing to assist. Everything about The Food Emporium is refreshing, especially the food and the service," the company said.
