Welcome to Bashas’
Chandler, Ariz.-based Bashas’ unveiled its first remodeled store for 2015 in late February in Peoria, Ariz., a middle-income suburb of Phoenix. As in all remodels over the past three years, Bashas’ entryway welcomes customers as they pass through the floral department, which features new fixtures and a new layout.
Be Healthy
Bashas’ said the Peoria store geared the expanded selection of organic and natural products to meet the needs of the active, younger families in the area. The section features a pop-out sign on the wall with the slogan, “Be Healthy”— the theme of a program that chain introduced two years ago that is used in all advertising and is also printed on tee shirts worn by some employees.
Have a scoop!
The store features an “ice cream shoppe,” positioned between the bakery and prepared foods sections, where customers can buy Blue Bell ice cream, gelato and frozen yogurt priced at $1 for a single scoop, $1.50 for a double and $2 for a triple.
From scratch
The remodeled bakery department features mostly made-from-scratch items, including donuts, pastries and crusty bread — one of the only chains in the Phoenix market with made-in-store baked goods, the company said.
Green grocer
The produce section — adjacent to the store’s “Be Healthy” organic and natural foods area — features more than 100 SKUs of organics, plus an expanded variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables.
The latest remodel
The 39,000-square-foot Peoria store originally opened at the end of 2002. Bashas’, which operates 120 stores under multiple banners, said it remodeled 16 stores in 2014 and plans nine more this year, of which Peoria was the first.
