First of its kind

Bfresh, the newest concept from Ahold’s Fresh Formats team, promises area shoppers “fresh foods, smart value and local convenience.”

The 10,000-square-foot store takes the place of a former Staples store and is located in Boston’s lively Allston neighborhood. It has grand opening ceremonies on tap for Sept. 18. The following photos illustrate activities as part of its “soft opening,” late last week. Ahold is developing a second location in Fairfield, Conn.

Open wide

Officials said they designed to store to have minimal back room space and a wide open layout allowing products to speak for themselves.
