Back in 2015, Beyond Meat made a splash with its plant-based burger that “bleeds.” Now the company has created its first processed “meat” product, Beyond Sausage, which mimics the taste and texture of pork and comes in three flavors bratwurst, sweet Italian and hot Italian.
Easy as pie
Since 1979, Lightlife has been making “meat without the middleman” as the compayn’s slogan goes. One of their newest offerings, Sweet Potato Shepherd's Pie, is a veggie-protein packed take on the classic Irish comfort food dish.
Pulled “pork” BBQ
The North Carolina-based No Evil Foods makes plant-based substitutes for its favorite proteins, and the latest, Pit Boss, is a rift on tradition pulled pork barbeque. It’s slow smoked over hickory wood and slathered with a housemade sauce featuring sorghum molasses.
Sales for meat snacks like jerky are on the rise, according to Nielsen, and the trend has expanded to include meat-free versions too, like this Kelp Jerky made of a type of seaweed. Previously named Beyond the Shoreline, the company recently relaunched as AKUA and will begin selling to retail stores later this year.
Field Roast, one of the pioneers in grain-based meats, recently expanded into the snack and comfort food market with options like these spicy and crispy Fruffalo Wings. Expect to see more of Field Roast in the next few years. The Seattle-based company was recently acquired by Maple Leaf Foods, a leading consumer-packaged protein company.
