ST. LOUIS — Shop 'n Save here is expanding its gasoline operations.

The Supervalu-owned chain opened its second Fuel Express Center in its Alton, Ill., location this month, and has one other gas station in Wood River, Ill., which opened in mid-December.

“We're always looking for ways to continue to bring value and convenience to our customers. It seemed to be a natural extension to offer our customers a fuel center — now they can cross off two errands by purchasing their groceries and gas in one trip,” Shop 'n Save spokeswoman Rebecca Herbst told SN.

The chain, which has 38 stores in the St. Louis metro area and three stores in Illinois, is considering more fuel centers. “We will evaluate potential additional locations based on the response to the first two locations, as well as the individual zoning laws and needs in the other communities we serve,” Herbst said.

The retailer is also offering a new fuel rewards program at both locations. The program gives customers who spend $100 or more on food a discount of 9 cents per gallon for up to 20 gallons. Those who spend between $50 and $99.99 can save 6 cents a gallon, and those buying $10 to $49.99 can save 3 cents per gallon.

“We've had incredibly positive feedback from our customers at the Wood River location, where the program has been in place since January,” Herbst said.
