Winn-Dixie’s 30,000-square-foot store in downtown Jacksonville, Fla., is one of its smaller units but features one of the most striking exteriors in the chain. The company has remodeled 96 stores thus far to emphasize five different customer segments: 30% serve a kosher demographic; 25% serve an affluent customer base; 20% are in urban areas; 15% serve a Hispanic clientele; and 10% are in resort areas
All remodeled stores feature wooden floors in the produce sections to give the area a warmer feel.
A hot-foods-to-go display in front of the store’s service deli features rotisserie and fried chicken, often alongside meatloaf, turkey breasts and drumsticks.
A five-tier display on the store’s back wall showcases the meat selection, with larger packages in a coffin case in front of the section.
Remodeled Winn-Dixies aim at “fresh and local,” as exemplified by this display of corn-on-the-cob “fresh from Georgia.”
The dairy wall has been expanded at remodeled Winn-Dixie stores, with a basic mix but more variety.
The seafood department combines service and self-service offerings in a single fixture.
An expanded health and beauty care section uses color to create an attractive gondola run.
Expanded pharmacies are positioned at the front of Winn-Dixie stores, located opposite the checkstands.
