When possible, Fields Foods will source produce from small, sustainable farmers within 100 miles of the store.
The retailer focuses on fresh foods and grab-and-go items.
In the prepared food area, “the chefs are very interactive and involved in preparing the meals and they’ll be pairing with the wines,” said Goodson.
Prices will range from low, bargain prices to higher prices for specialty goods.
In addition to offering local beers, Fields Foods has a beer bar.
There is also a wine selection.
"We are excited to open a store that not only fulfills the critical need for fresher and healthier food choices in St. Louis, but also benefits our local communities and supports the local farmers and food producers that work tirelessly to create products that are the true essence of what food should be about – but have struggled to make their products attainable to a large market,” said Richard Cashion, Fields Foods general manager.
The 37,000-square-foot building houses the supermarket as well as a distributor and processor that services the store, as well as local schools, nonprofits and restaurants.
