D&W Boosts Spartan’s Year-End Results

Spartan Stores here yesterday said growth in comparable-store sales and distribution revenues and the addition of D&W Food Centers helped drive top- and bottom-line growth for the fourth quarter and fiscal year that ended March 31.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Spartan Stores here yesterday said growth in comparable-store sales and distribution revenues and the addition of D&W Food Centers helped drive top- and bottom-line growth for the fourth quarter and fiscal year that ended March 31. Net income was up 36.4%, to $7.2 million for the quarter, on a 23.6% gain in sales, to $559.5 million, compared with year-ago results. The recent quarter and year also included an extra week. For the full year net income rose 38.5% to $25.2 million, on a 16.2% gain in sales, to $2.37 billion. Comps, excluding gas and the extra week, rose 1.4% for both the fourth quarter and year.
