SORKIN NAMED HEAD OF CONN. FOOD ASSOCIATION

FARMINGTON, Conn. — The Connecticut Food Association here last week said it has named Stan Sorkin as its new executive director. He succeeds Grace Nome, who died last year after leading the association for 26 years. Sorkin, a 40-year veteran of the food industry, most recently was director of marketing and government relations for Alpha 1 Marketing Corp., the marketing arm of White Plains, N.Y.-based distributor Krasdale Foods. He previously served four terms as chairman of the Food Industry Alliance of New York State and is a former chairman of the New Jersey Food Council.

BI-LO PROMOTES JONES TO GROUP VICE PRESIDENT

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Bi-Lo here said it has promoted Anthea Jones to group vice president, Center Store, a newly created position. Jones, an eight-year veteran of Bi-Lo, previously was vice president, nonfoods and pharmacy. In his new position Jones will have responsibility for category management support, pricing and Center Store procurement and will report directly to Tye Anothy, executive vice president.

FAMILY DOLLAR ELEVATES SULLIVAN TO EVP, OPERATIONS

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar Stores here last week said it has promoted Barry W. Sullivan to executive vice president, store operations. He continues to report to R. James Kelly, president and chief operating officer of the 6,400-store discount retailer. Sullivan, who joined Family Dollar in 2002 from drug store chain Eckerd Corp., most recently was senior vice president, store operations.
