BLUEFIELD, W.VA. — K-VA-T Food Stores is eyeing its first location in West Virginia at the site of a Kroger store here that is scheduled to close soon, according to a local report.
Abingdon, Va.-based K-VA-T — whose name is taken from the initials of its three states of operation, Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee — has agreed to lease the Kroger store, the Bluefield Daily Telegraph reported. The newspaper quoted Steve Smith, K-VA-T’s president and chief executive officer, saying that while K-VA-T hoped to open a supermarket at the site, the building is old and, “It is certainly going to take a lot of work to get it up to standards.”
A K-VA-T spokesman said he could not comment on the report.
