TORONTO -- Loblaw Cos. here on Monday began selling a reusable shopping bag it said could divert 1 billion single-use plastic bags from landfills in 2007. “Canada‘s Greenest Shopping Bag,” made from 85% recycled materials, is part of Loblaw‘s PC Green line of private-label sustainable products, Loblaw said. The line also includes also items such as fire logs made of recycled coffee grounds, recycled tissue paper and paper towels, and lawn and garden products. The bag retails for 99 cents (Canadian -- about 88 cents U.S.) Weekly use of one reusable bag diverts about 100 plastic bags from landfills each year, Loblaw said.
