PARIS — Judging for the SIAL d'Or competition recognizing innovative and successful new-product introductions worldwide is scheduled to take place next week at the SIAL China trade show in Shanghai.

This year's exhibition, taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Center May 14-16, will mark the ninth consecutive year for the China version of the show. About 1,200 exhibitors are expected.

In addition to the SIAL d'Or judging, SIAL China also will include OlivAsia, an olive oil competition; and the China Wine & Spirits Competition.

For the SIAL d'Or competition, editors from 30 trade magazines from around the world, including SN, nominated products in nine different categories, based on their innovative qualities and commercial success. The products must have debuted since late 2006 and have been on the market for at least six months during 2007.

The trade editors will then judge the nominated products from all of the countries and select one winning product in each category, and from those one will be selected to receive the SIAL d'Or award. In addition, one product will be named the SIAL d'Or winner from each country's submissions.

The U.S. products nominated were: Dannon Active Probiotic Dairy Drinks (dairy category); Oscar Mayer Deli Creations Hot Sandwich Melts (non-dairy perishables); Sara Lee Hearty & Delicious Breads (sweet grocery); Campbell's Reduced Sodium Red Label Condensed Soups (savory grocery); Natural Choice Organic Mango Sorbet (sweet frozens); Kashi All-Natural Frozen Pizzas (savory frozens); Gatorade A.M. Breakfast Drinks (non-alcoholic beverages); Budweiser Chelada (alcoholic beverages); and Carlo Rossi Boxed Wine (wine, a new category separate from alcoholic beverages).
