Spartan Posts Third-Quarter Gains

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Spartan Stores here yesterday said revenue gains from its acquired D&W Food Centers and from 3.2% comparable-store sales growth helped drive net income up 75.6% in the 16-week third quarter that ended Dec. 30, to $5.9 million, compared the year-ago results.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Spartan Stores here yesterday said revenue gains from its acquired D&W Food Centers and from 3.2% comparable-store sales growth helped drive net income up 75.6% in the 16-week third quarter that ended Dec. 30, to $5.9 million, compared the year-ago results. Sales totaled $723.5 million in the period, a gain of 12.7%. Excluding fuel centers, comps were up 0.6% in the quarter. Net income for the 40-week, year-to-date period totaled $17.9 million, up 39.3%, on sales of $1.8 billion, up 14.1%, compared with prior-year results.
