About 1.7 tons of ground beef has been recalled after a sample from Kansas-based meat packer Elkhorn Valley Packing tested positive for E.coli.
The recall is tagged on boneless beef chuck that was packaged on Feb. 16 and shipped to retail and wholesale locations, as well as distributors, across nine states, including: Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Elkhorn Valley Packing voluntarily issued the recall.
The product subject to recall bears establishment number “EST. M-19549” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The problem was discovered when U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) was conducting routine FSIS testing of ground beef derived from this product and the sample confirmed positive for E.coli. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
