Kroger to open expanded Kentucky distribution center

Grocer will invest $550,000 and create 98 jobs

Kroger will expand its ecommerce network in Northern Kentucky with the addition of 2,000 square foot of space that will serve as a home delivery spoke site to its existing automated Ocado hub facility in Monroe, Ohio.

The expanded facility, a fulfillment center located in Independence, Ky., is a $550,000 investment and will create 98 jobs, according to reporting from the Cincinnati Business Courier.

Kroger has 112 stores in Kentucky and four manufacturing and distributing facilities that serve the company, as well as a regional headquarters in Louisville.

As part of opening the expanded distribution center, the Kroger Fulfillment Network, the subsidiary that’s operating the site, finalized a 10-year incentive agreement with the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority under the Kentucky Business Investment program.

The deal is performance-based and can produce up to $550,000 in tax credits based on Kroger’s $550,000 investment and if the retailer hits the following targets:

  • The creation and maintenance of 98 full-time jobs over 10 years
  • Paying an hourly wage of $24.28, plus benefits

Kroger can also receive recruitment and job placement services, reduced-cost customized training, and job-training incentives.
