Sprouts Farmers Market ramps up store openings

Expansion to bring fresh grocer into three new states

Sprouts Farmers Market aims to open 13 new stores in nine states during the third quarter.

The Phoenix, Ariz.-based fresh, natural and organic supermarket chain said Wednesday that the new locations are in Durham, N.C.; El Paso, Texas; Las Vegas (three stores); Mill Creek, Wash.; Oklahoma City; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Towson, Md.; and Lodi, Sacramento and Vacaville, Calif.

Sprouts currently operates almost 300 stores in 16 states. The company said it plans to open 16 stores by the close of the 2018 first half — including its first South Carolina location —and to expand its market area to 19 states by the year’s end.

Besides South Carolina, new states for Sprouts under the expansion include Pennsylvania and Washington. The grocer also is growing its presence in Florida, Maryland and North Carolina.

“As we continue to enter new markets, we’re pleased with the customer response to Sprouts’ unique combination of health and value,” Sprouts chief development officer Ted Frumkin said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to bringing healthy living for less to new neighbors in Philadelphia and the Mill Creek area of Seattle later this year.”

Sprouts stores offer fresh produce, meat and seafood from The Butcher Shop and Fish Market departments, freshly prepared entrees and sides at the Market Corner Deli, bulk foods, vitamins and supplements, dairy, bakery and natural body care items. More than 2,400 Sprouts-brand products also are available in the retailer’s offering of thousands of natural, organic and gluten-free grocery items.
