Three Kroger chains will now offer SNAP EBT payments

SNAP benefits can be used via app or when shopping online

Fred Meyer, Smith’s, and QFC, all owned by Kroger, will start taking SNAP EBT payments for orders online. The option will be offered at Fred Meyer and QFC stores in Washington state, Oregon, and Idaho, and at all Smith’s locations, reports Yahoo Finance.

The three chains had previously been accepting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits at brick-and-mortar locations, but now shoppers can apply those benefits via the stores’ app and online. Customers will need to create an account with either option.

Kroger stores in Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee started taking SNAP orders over the internet back in April.

The latest debt-ceiling agreement that was signed by President Joe Biden over the weekend is expected to affect 750,000 SNAP welfare recipients ages 50 to 54.
