The Jericho Market store is part of a five-location group that also has stores in these Vermont towns: Shelburne, Richmond, Waterbury and Johnson.

The lighting is soft and warm and the custom signage is more akin to a farmers' market than a supermarket, Burdick said.

Burdick said that her team focused on the theme of maple sugar, a product that the town of Jericho is known for. The team worked with a local sculptor to fabricated lifelike trees, complete with sap buckets, to line the walls.

The floors of the frozen food and center store aisles consist of a neutral, three-color pallet.

The team avoided bold colors because they did not want to overpower the many colors of the products.

The produce section stuck with the neutral theme, but was given its own spin. Burdick’s team went with luxury vinyl tile or LVT for the flooring in the produce section. This material gives off the appearance of wood and provides an organic, natural vibe that allowed the colors of the vegetables to pop. Burdick said that the “neutral, natural backdrop” allowed the produce to take center stage.

The market opened Aug. 16.
