WASHINGTON — Harris Teeter became the latest food retailer to join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s GreenChill Refrigeration Partnership, which was officially launched yesterday in a ceremony at EPA headquarters here. The other retail participants in the program are Food Lion, Hannaford Bros., Giant Eagle, Publix Super Markets and Whole Foods Market. The voluntary program has been under way informally for over a year, but got its official send-off yesterday. It aims to reduce refrigerant emissions and promote the use of non-ozone-depleting refrigerants and new refrigeration technology. Hill Phoenix, Kysor//Warren, DuPont and Honeywell are the other participants. “We look forward to participating with our peers and manufacturers in this endeavor,” said Michael Shepard, Harris Teeter’s director of energy and maintenance, at the EPA ceremony.
