GreenChill Presents Achievement Awards

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's GreenChill Partnership announced the recipients of its 2010 Environmental Achievement Awards.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's GreenChill Partnership today announced the recipients of its 2010 Environmental Achievement Awards.

The awards were led by Boston-area Star Market's Chestnut Hill store, which received the Best of the Best Award for employing the most environmentally-friendly refrigeration technology of all the supermarkets that received GreenChill store certification during the past year.

Sprouts Farmers Market and Giant Eagle were recognized with Best Emissions Rate Awards for having the best overall emissions rates of all GreenChill partner companies.

Star Markets' parent company Supervalu, along with Hannaford Bros., Price Chopper, Publix, Food Lion, Weis Markets and Giant Eagle all earned GreenChill Environmental Achievement Awards for exceeding their company's target refrigerant emissions reduction goals during the past year.

Supervalu was also awarded GreenChill's Distinguished Supermarket Partner Award for the company's efforts to advance the mission of EPA's GreenChill Partnership, and Weis Markets earned the Most Improved Emissions Rate award for cutting refrigerant emissions at their chain by 20% in a single year.

Kysor/Warren, one of the leading manufacturers of green refrigeration systems for supermarkets, received this year's Distinguished Partner award for manufacturers.
