Grocers are gearing up for big sales in the lead up to Easter Sunday, and despite rising prices at the supermarket, shoppers are ready for eggs and candy.
Nearly two-thirds (65%) of shoppers said in a survey by data analytics firm Numerator that they plan to buy eggs this year to dye for Easter.
More than one in five (21%) will buy more eggs than they did last year, while 33% said they plan to buy the same amount, and 11% will buy fewer.
A quarter of respondents said they would buy more eggs this year, but the high price is keeping them from doing so. Sixty-seven percent of survey respondents said price is their main purchase consideration, while 43% said egg size, 33% pack size, and 32% egg color.
Twelve percent said they’re concerned about whether the eggs come from free-range chickens.
Traditional grocery stores are expected to be the biggest winner in terms of egg sales this year. The Numerator study estimates that 69% of consumers will do their egg shopping there. Forty percent will buy eggs at big-box stores, 18% at warehouse stores, 10% at dollar and discount stores, and 9% from local sellers and farmer’s markets.
While consumers will purchase their Easter eggs from a variety of sources, they won’t all be open on Easter Sunday, according to a report from USA Today.

- Sam’s Club
- Aldi

Let’s not forget about the candy. A Numerator survey released in mid-March showed that 69% of consumers will celebrate Easter, and 53% plan to purchase candy.
Last-mile delivery service DoorDash broke down the candy sales by the most popular brand, and the big winner was Reese’s. Here’s the full list:
