Loblaw launches online store for mattresses

Sleep products retailer Sleep Country opens up shop on Loblaw Marketplace

Loblaw Cos., Canada’s largest supermarket operator, has teamed up with specialty sleep retailer Sleep Country to launch an online store for the brand on the Loblaw Marketplace e-commerce site.

Under the partnership, customers across Loblaw Cos. online grocery banners — including Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, Atlantic Superstore, Zehrs, Maxi, Fortinos, Provigo, Valu-Mart, No Frills, Your Independent Grocer and Independent City Market — will be able to buy a range of sleep products via the SleepCountry + marketplace, Toronto-based Sleep Country Canada Holdings said this week.

Items available for purchase include mattresses, box springs and frames plus mattresses-in-a-box, lifestyle bases and bedding such as pillows, sheets and cases, and duvets. Mattress brands sold include Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Serta, Simmons, Simba, Purple and Casper, among others. Customers also will have access to Sleep Country’s “white glove” home delivery and installation service, the company said.

“We’re scaling our online offering to ensure our customers have seamless access to the products and brands they want most,” Kim Nguyen, general manager of Marketplace for Loblaw Cos., said in a statement. “Loblaw is proud to be partnering with Sleep Country as we continue to expand our digital footprint to now include some of the world’s top sleep brands.”

The SleepCountry + marketplace e-store will sell mattresses, box springs and frames plus mattresses-in-a-box, lifestyle bases and bedding.

Launched online in 2019, Loblaw Marketplace is designed as an “endless aisles” offering for the grocery retailer, enabling the company to sell thousands of products not sold in physical stores. Offerings span such categories as household supplies, home and kitchen, baby, pet, toys, garden and outdoor, electronics, sporting goods, arts and crafts, and more. Shoppers also earn PC Optimum loyalty points on purchases delivered directly to their home. Sleep Country will be the exclusive provider of traditional mattresses on Loblaw Marketplace.

“We’re thrilled to introduce our exciting new digital partnership with Loblaw that brings together two great Canadian brands in one terrific online shopping experience,” commented Stewart Schaefer, CEO of Sleep Country. “As Canadians continue to focus on their well-being and demand for sleep products grows, we’re driving channel and product innovation throughout our sleep ecosystem and expanding our digital footprint to give Canadians access to the best sleep products wherever they choose to shop.”

Overall, Brampton, Ontario-based Loblaw has a retail network of 2,439 stores, including 550 corporate-owned and 546 franchised grocery stores and 1,343 Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix associate-owned drugstores.
