PHOENIX — In celebration of Earth Day, Sprouts Farmers Market here has announced the launch of “Stand Up for State Parks!” — a special series of educational events and fund-raising campaigns targeting state parks that have been threatened by budget and staffing cuts this year.

Shoppers can donate $1, $2 or $5 at any Sprouts location between April 8 and Earth Day, April 22, and Sprouts will match donations in each store. The company will also host a series of events where shoppers can meet park rangers and recreational experts while shopping, educational events where shoppers can learn to create a first aid kit from items found in a kitchen cupboard, and a “taste of the outdoors” food-sampling program.

“Our customers are very passionate about striving for a healthy lifestyle for themselves and their families, which includes celebrating the outdoors as a natural resource,” said Doug Sanders, president and chief operating officer. “We are proud to help bring together our customers to honor and raise awareness about our state parks.”
