The list of store closings for Rite Aid continues to be a working document as the company tries to navigate through its bankruptcy filing.
The Camp Hill, Pa.-based retailer added another 55 locations in January, reports news outlet MassLive. A bulk of the closings will happen in California (16), New York (eight), and Ohio (nine). Rite Aids will also shutter in Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington.
Rite Aid has not responded to an email confirming the number of store closings in time for this publication.
Originally, the retailer said it would shut down 154 stores when it declared for bankruptcy in October 2023. The filing allows Rite Aid to restructure its debt, which sits at $3.3 billion.
More stores were placed on the cut list in both November and December. In the meantime, Rite Aid’s real estate advisor, A&G Real Estate Partners, announced more leases that would be sold. Just last week, A&G said it was putting eight additional leases up for sale pending approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. In November, 92 leases were planned to hit the market.
