Rite Aid plans to close 31 more stores

The number of Rite Aid store casualties due to the retailer’s bankruptcy filing continues to climb.

Rite Aid, based in Philadelphia, Pa., plans on closing another 31 locations according to a bankruptcy court filing, reports CNN.

Last month, Rite Aid’s real estate advisor, A&G Real Estate Partners, announced its intention to market for sale a second portion of leases — 92 in all — pending U.S. Bankruptcy Court approval.

When it first filed for Chapter 11, Rite Aid said it would close 154 stores, and that number was increased to 178 a few weeks later.

The round of 31 store closings includes seven locations in California, four in Pennsylvania and three locations apiece in Ohio, Virginia, and Washington. Michigan (2), New Jersey (2), Oregon (2), New York (2), Connecticut (1), Maryland (1), and Nevada (1) also will have Rite Aid locations shuttered in the latest closing announcement.

Rite Aid did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication of this story.

The retailer filed for bankruptcy in early October. The Chapter 11 filing allows for Rite Aid to restructure its debt, which sits at $3.3 billion.
