NGA names board officers, new directors

The National Grocers Association said Rich Niemann Jr., president and CEO of Niemann Foods, Quincy, Ill., has been elected chairman.

The National Grocers Association said Rich Niemann Jr., president and CEO of Niemann Foods, Quincy, Ill., has been elected chairman.

Other new board officers are Bob Ling, president and CEO of Unified Grocers, Los Angeles, as vice chairman; Cheryl Sommer, owner of Kaune's Neighborhood Market, Santa Fe, N.M., as treasurer; and Rich McMenamin, owner of McMenamin Family ShopRite, Philadelpha, as secretary.

NGA also said 12 new board members have been elected.  They are:  Teresa Baker, VP, Baker's IGA, Newcomerstown, Ohio; Ted Balistreri, co-owner, Sendik's Food Markets, Whtefish Bay, Wis.; Rick Brindle, VP, industry development, Mondelez International, Chesterfield, Va.; Rudy Dory, owner, Newport Avenue Market, Bend, Ore.; Ron Fong, president, California Grocers Association, Saramento; Tim Henderson, owner, Henderson's IGA, Valentine, Neb.

Derek Jones, EVP, food distribution, SpartanNash, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Ken Nemeth, president and CEO, Central Grocers, Joliet, Ill; Dan Shanahan, president and COO, Buehler Food Markets, Wooster, Ohio; Ray Sprinkle, president and CEO, URM Stores, Spokane, Wash.; Terry Thomas, VP, customer development, Unilever, Englewood Cliffs, N.J.; and David Wilkinson, president, Strack & Van Til, Highland, Ind.
