IDDBA 2014: What to watch at Dairy-Deli-Bake

In two weeks, the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association will hold its annual conference in Denver. Dairy-Deli-Bake 2014 promises to showcase the latest trends across diverse fresh departments in the supermarket.

While the show features a number of exciting, high profile speakers — Hillary Clinton, Peyton Manning, Captain Richard Phillips (the inspiration for the 2013 film about a Somali pirate attack) — I’ll be paying the most attention to the insights of industry experts.

Targeting specific demographic groups is on the agenda for The Hartman Group’s Laurie Demeritt, who will discuss Millennials, Gen X, Boomers and Hispanics, as well as for Bill Klump, SVP of marketing at Butterball and IDDBA board chairman, who will give a presentation on men and grocery shopping. And as always, the capstone of the speaker sessions will be IDDBA’s trends report, this year presented by the association’s VP of education, Mary Kay O’Connor.

On the show floor, I’ll be watching to see if the recent trends SN has covered in bread, deli bars and butter are here to stay, or if there’s something new on the horizon.
