Ahold vet Glei joining Food City

K-VA-T Food Stores has named Dan Glei as the company’s new vice president of center store. Glei is a veteran of Ahold USA who brings more than 25 years of industry experience to K-VA-T, the Abingdon, Va.-based operator of the Food City chain.

“Dan has worked in grocery and consumer package goods industry for a number of years, specializing, merchandising, private brands and most recently e-commerce,” Steven C. Smith, Food City president and CEO, said. “I am confident that he will prove to be a valuable asset to our company and that his service in this key position will enable us to continue to advance and improve upon our center store operations.”

Prior to joining the Food City, Glei served in a number of capacities for Ahold USA/Giant Food Stores, including SVP merchandising, SVP brand & format development and SVP of ecommerce. His responsibilities at Food City will include the oversight of all center store operations, supervision of the category management staff, space management team, grocery supervisors and coordination of the CPG partners.

“I am very excited to be part of the Food City team, a first class organization,” Glei said in a statement. “Food City has a customer-first focus throughout all levels of the organization, which makes it very clear on what our priorities are every day.”

Glei holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Michigan State University. He plans to relocate to the Abingdon area with his wife, Leigh, and daughter, Sarah.

K-VA-T Food Stores operates 106 retail food outlets throughout the tri-state regions of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
