Chips, dip and pizza top Super Bowl fare

Pizza, buffalo wings, beer, salty snacks and dips are making a comeback for the big game as Americans forgo the vegetable platters, water and granola that was popular last year, for traditional Super Bowl fare, according to Nielsen research.

Pizza has climbed from the No. 7 spot in 2013 to No. 3 this year, followed in popularity by Buffalo wings (4th in 2014, 9th in 2013).

Salty snacks and dips will trump all other snacks this year, including granola and trail mixes, which just 8% of Americans plan to consume.

More than half of respondents plan to drink or serve beer (53%) and carbonated beverages (51); 55% of Americans intend to watch the game at home; and 17% will do so at a bar, restaurant or friend’s house.
