Giant Eagle Reduces the Everyday Price of 750 Items

Giant Eagle reduced the everyday prices of 750 national-brand and private-label items in its Pittsburgh-area stores yesterday.

PITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle reduced the everyday prices of 750 national-brand and private-label items in its Pittsburgh-area stores yesterday. The retailer also revoked the double coupon limit of 50 cents it imposed earlier this month. Its double coupon program will now include coupons up to 99 cents. Items aimed at helping shoppers cook quick and easy meals, such as Ragu Pizza Sauce, Uncle Ben’s Brown Rice and Bumblee Pink Salmon, will have their prices reduced by an average of 16%, resulting in approximately $12 million in annualized customer savings. These and other items included in Giant Eagle’s lower everyday price campaign can be identified by “Price Cut: When You See Green You Save Green!” signage throughout the store. “Continuing our efforts to lower everyday prices and providing customers the best overall value are critical pieces of our corporate strategy and respond to our customers’ needs,” said Brett Merrell, senior vice president of marketing for Giant Eagle, in a statement. “This is the first in a series of price reductions we have planned, and they are in addition to our promotional programs such as weekly specials, double coupons and fuelperks!” Since beginning its everyday price reduction campaigns in 2004, Giant Eagle has invested a total of more than $150 million in customer savings on grocery items and generic prescription drugs.
