SHERBURNE, N.Y. — Chenango Valley Pet Foods here announced last week that it was voluntarily recalling pet food. The company was informed by importer and distributor Wilbur-Ellis that the rice protein concentrate which it shipped to Chenango Valley may be contaminated with melamine. It instructed Chenango Valley to recall any pet foods manufactured with rice protein concentrate. They include Doctors Foster & Smith’s Chicken and Brown Rice Formula Adult Lite Dog Food and Rice Formula Adult Lite Cat Food; Lick Your Chops Lamb Meal, Rice & Egg Cat Food and Bulk Chicken & Brown Rice Formula Adult Lite Dog Food. The pet foods were sold to customers in Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, according to Chenango Valley. Diamond Pet Foods, Meta, Mo., also announced its recall of three canned pet food products. All were manufactured by American Nutrition. They include Diamond Lamb & Rice Formula for Dogs; Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Kitten Formula and Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Puppy Formula. Last week the Food and Drug Administration confirmed that rice protein concentrate used by American Nutrition contained melamine, according to Diamond Pet Foods.
