CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Harris Teeter will launch a signature sub sandwich this week that has been designed especially for the 211-unit chain by Carolina Hurricane defenseman Jay Harrison.

Harrison’s personal favorite sandwich, dubbed “The Defender,” will get its debut at a Raleigh, N.C., Harris Teeter store.

Retailing for $3.99, the sub features roasted turkey and bacon topped with pepper jack cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayo on a whole wheat sub roll.

For just another dollar, at $4.99, customers can create a lunch package by bundling these other items with the signature sandwich: Harris Teeter’s private-label “sweet tea” or “unsweet tea” or lemonade, and a cookie.

Fresh Foods Market Sandwich Shops in all Raleigh-area Harris Teeter stores will feature “The Defender,” but this Friday only, Feb. 22, Harrison will personally introduce his own designed sub at Raleigh’s North Hills East Harris Teeter. The NHL star also will be signing autographs at that store that day.

Harris Teeter officials implied in a news release that Harris Teeter plans to add more special sandwiches as the winter goes on. They advised consumers to be on the lookout for more signature sandwiches at Harris Teeter stores.
