NGA said Lyons most recently was deputy chief of staff for Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee. Prior to her time spent working in the U.S. House, Lyons worked for a Washington-based think tank, and served on the staff of a U.S. senator.

"I am pleased to welcome Maggie to the NGA team,” said Peter J. Larkin, president and CEO, NGA. “Her experience working in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives will be a great addition to our government relations program. NGA's member companies count on us to be their voice in Washington, and that is a commitment that we take very seriously. Maggie's addition to our team ensures NGA remains a strong advocate for our members and the independent grocery channel."
