Ferguson joined the chain earlier this summer after previously working at Kroger Co., according to the Hampton Roads, Va., Daily Press.

Parker had been named interim president last September following the departure of Gaelo de la Fuente, who had been president for two years. De la Fuente had succeeded Ron Dennis, who had been president for 12 years before that.

A Supervalu spokesman could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
