ST. LOUIS — Save-A-Lot here said that it had consolidated its corporate procurement functions under its marketing/merchandising group following the retirement of Steve Harris, senior vice president of procurement, who worked at the chain for 31 years. The procurement team, including David McDaniel and Mike Kemp, vice presidents of procurement, will now report to Bill Gillispie, senior vice president, marketing/merchandising, Save-A-Lot said. Also reporting to Gillispie is Andrea Wagner, vice president of consumer segments and brand strategy; and Larry Tyler, vice president, sales planning, analytics and in-store execution. “We appreciate Steve's more than 30 years of service with Save-A-Lot. His retirement gives us the opportunity to look at our current structure and determine how we can leverage other strong leaders to meet our company goals,” Bill Shaner, president and chief executive officer of Save-A-Lot, said in a statement. Save-A-Lot is an independently run division of Supervalu, Minneapolis.

DICKSON TO RETIRE FROM RUDDICK

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Ruddick Corp. here, parent of the Harris Teeter chain, said last week that Alan T. Dickson has informed the company's board of directors that he will retire as a director after more than 40 years. Plans call for Dickson to serve out the remainder of his term and retire at the opening of Ruddick's 2010 annual shareholder meeting scheduled for Feb. 18. Dickson, 78, was the chairman of the board from 1994-2006 and president of the company from 1968-1994. He has also been a director of the company since 1968. His nephew, Thomas W. Dickson, is currently Ruddick's chairman, president and chief executive officer.
