Foods that contain carbohydrates raise blood glucose, so by keeping track of grams consumed, diabetics can keep their blood glucose within target range.

“H-E-B is helping customers make carb-aware food choices by labeling food with 0-15 grams of carbohydrates per serving with our new Carb Aware Nutritional Icon,” said the retailer in a Facebook post.

The purple symbol features a slice of bread and includes the words "Carb Aware" and "0-15 grams."

A small piece of fresh fruit (4 ounces), a slice of bread and one-third cup of pasta each contain about 15 grams of carbs, according to the American Diabetes Association.
