GREENVILLE, S.C. — On Wednesday Bi-Lo announced its new "Gold Star" line of premium meat products. Bi-Lo described the brand as "a symbol of unsurpassed freshness, quality and value."

The Gold Star brand will only include certified-angus beef and pork humanely raised, without hormones or steroids. The brand — which will offer a selection of locally raised chicken products — pledges to use humanely-raised, antibiotic-free chicken that hasn't been frozen, only air-chilled.

"Bi-Lo strives to bring shoppers savings without sacrifice throughout our store, and our commitment to excellence is truly exemplified through our new Gold Star meat lineup," said Bi-Lo's Meat and Seafood Merchandising Director Stacey Couch in a written statement.

Gold Star will also include Strauss' veal and lamb, Springer Mountain Farms antibiotic-free chicken and Laura's Lean Beef natural line.
