NEW YORK — FreshDirect here now has a new, environmentally friendly egg delivery packaging solution that reduces breakage.

Following a pilot period in April 2009 that showed a 30% reduction in egg breakage complaints, FreshDirect has now switched its egg packaging from a bed of soft foam to a corrugated mesh comprised of 100% recycled, and recyclable, material.

All eggs — about 12,000 cartons a week — will be shipped in this environmentally sensitive packaging solution.
