PITTSBURGH — Following other retailers, including Kroger Co., Cincinnati, and Wal-Mart Stores, Bentonville, Ark., Giant Eagle here yesterday began offering customers a 90-day supply of generic medications for $10. The retailer’s website noted that a new prescription is needed to convert from a 30-day supply — priced at $4 — to 90 days. The site said the new 90-day policy applies to “most” of the drugs in the 30-day program. “This effort will help customers to save by driving down prescription medication costs, while providing greater convenience,” said Randy Heiser, vice president of pharmacy. “Physicians have told us that programs such as our $4 plan and our Refills on Time services have helped their patients with affordable, timely access to the drugs needed to maintain wellness.”
