KEASBEY, N.J. — Klein’s Family Markets, a family-run independent based in Forest Hill, Md., said yesterday that it had joined the Wakefern Food Corp. cooperative and would convert its seven stores to the ShopRite banner. The stores, set to convert over the next several months, would be ShopRite’s first in Maryland, officials said. “Membership in the Wakefern cooperative will allow us to continue to grow the business we have been building since 1925,” Michael J. Klein, vice president and purchasing director for Klein’s, said in a statement. Membership will also improve selection of private brands and fresh goods at its stores, and allow it to add programs such as ShopRite’s PricePlus loyalty card, its Culinary Workshop in-store cooking classes and its charitable programs, the company added. Klein’s would be the 44th member in the cooperative. Its stores are located in Harford County, a northern Baltimore suburb.
