CULVER CITY, Calif. — A Sprouts Farmers Market store that opened in late June here yesterday received the first ever “Energy Efficiency Leader in Retail Grocery Award” from Hussmann and Trane, divisions of Ingersoll Rand, for the sustainable energy and operational efficiency systems selected for the store.

The 32,800-square-foot store features high-performance heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems that meet the company’s sustainability objectives. Sprouts Farmers Market anticipates that the systems will use approximately 50% less refrigerant than the industry average.

The store also received the Environmental Protection Agency’s GreenChill “gold” certification for low refrigerant charge and emissions will be the first in the 49-store chain to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified.
